TransGreenland Electric Challenge 2026

A New Era of Polar Exploration Begins

The goal of the Trans Greenland Electric Challenge is to test and enhance the capabilities of off-grid, fully self-sustaining, and self-charging electric travel and exploration in remote polar areas, in a fully decarbonized way. This begins with the use of basic electric vehicles such as electric snowmobiles, cargo drones, and electric paramotors, all charged using solar panels and small wind turbines.

We are in the middle of an electric revolution. Technology is improving at an incredible pace, and the Inuit Windsled Society aims to be at the forefront of adapting new technologies for electric-powered travel, exploration, and research in remote areas.

At the same time, many of the experiences and learnings from this challenge will be integrated into the broader Inuit Windsled Project.

In 2025, the first attempt to use electric vehicles in a self-charging and self-sustaining way took place in Greenland with the first Trans Greenland Electric Challenge. Almost 200 km were covered, and many valuable lessons were learned.

Our goal is to organize annual expeditions, incorporating the latest emerging technologies and applying lessons learned through real-world testing under polar conditions on the Greenland ice cap.

For that reason, preparations have already begun for the 2026 Trans Greenland Electric Challenge, which will take place on the ice cap, starting from Narsaq in April/May 2026.
