Larramendi sled
The Larramendi sled is a modular sled, made up of a variable number of sleds that join between them, together creating an articulated platform sled, the amount of runners is variable depending on the needs, and the platform is prepared and suitable for putting a tent on top.
Each sled is made up of runners that are low and light, built from laminated ash and very strong and flexible. Joined by ropes through a special knot that can be tied up in a few seconds inspired in the Qamutit inuit sled , the crossbars have a teflon under inspired in the Indian toboggan sleds.
Thanks to the tying system the sled is extremely strong, flexible and adaptable to irregular terrain and giant sastrugis, being almost unbreakable, in the case it breaks each piece can be easily fixed.
Each one of the Larramendi sleds or sled platforms can be combined in a way that creates a convoy with as many sleds as needed, together forming the Inuit Windsled.
The sled was designed by Ramon Larramendi while looking for solutions for navigating over the ice in 1999 and 2000, and is totally inspired in the Inuit and Indian sleds. It has been tested and improved along the windsled expeditions from 2000 to 2024.
